Hello St. Philip Neri Parishioners! As many of you may know, August Taglianetti will be ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at 10:00am from the Cathedral of Sts. Peter & Paul and you can view the Live Stream of the ordination at archphila.org.
In ordinary circumstances, we would all have been offered the opportunity to go down to the Cathedral on Saturday, attend the ordination, and then be able to attend his first Mass which would be held at St. Philips on Sunday. I am sure we would have had a massive celebration in the school hall afterwards, It is an amazing experience to be part of an ordination and a priest's first Mass, and of course this would have been extra-special, because as you also may know, August is the first priest to be ordained from our parish who grew up in our community and went to our school. He is truly a home-grown priest and it is a great blessing and source of great pride for Monsignor Vance and our parish.
Well, as we all know ordinary circumstances no longer exist, and we will not get to celebrate August the way we might want or expected. But it would be good if we could do something so that he would know that even though we cannot be physically present with him on what is probably the most momentous day of his life, and a momentous day in the life of our parish, we are with him in spirit.
Beginning on Tuesday, June 16th, there will be a box in the Church foyer for you to place any cards, letters and/or gifts wishing August many blessings as he embarks on his vocation. We are hopeful that we will have hundreds of letters in the box so please spread the word to everyone you know from our parish. We are creating a banner and a beautifully decorated basket in which we will place all of our cards and letters and gifts. The basket will be presented to him at the reception following his Mass.
If you can't get an appropriate card, you can always google ideas on what to say in a card for a newly ordained priest. If you wanted to give August a gift in your card, gift cards to St. Jude's Catholic Shop, local restaurant gift cards and of course cash are good ideas.
Please consider putting something in the box to assure August of our prayers and support as he embarks on his vocation, and although we cannot physically attend his First Mass, you can view the live-stream at 3:00 Sunday, June 21, from the SPN website (saintphilipnerichurch.com).
The link below will help you get to know a little more about August....a man called from the SPN Community to serve God and his people as an ordained priest.
Blessings to all of you.
